The Department of Commerce of the Government General Degree College at Kalna-I is a newly established academic unit functioning under the affiliation of The University of Burdwan. The Department is committed to imparting quality higher education in the discipline of Commerce in accordance with the curricular framework, academic regulations, and examination system prescribed by the University.

The Department offers undergraduate instruction with the objective of developing conceptual clarity, analytical ability, and practical understanding in core areas of Commerce such as Accounting, Business Studies, Economics, Finance, and Management. The curriculum is designed to equip students with subject knowledge, professional competence, and ethical values required for higher education, competitive examinations, entrepreneurship, and employment.

The Department’s Vision is to achieve excellence in imparting quality education, fostering diversity along with inclusion, and adopting sustainable practices conducive to students. The Department strives to achieve academic leadership, effective governance and management on one hand, and to emphasize skill development, entrepreneurship skills, and employability on the other.

Despite the dearth of teachers, non-teaching staff, classrooms, and other infrastructural facilities, the Department ensures effective delivery of the curriculum through optimal utilization of available resources. The Department maintains a healthy teacher-student relationship and promotes a participatory teaching-learning process through classroom interaction, academic discussions, internal assessment, and mentoring.

The Department is committed to continuous academic improvement, outcome-based education, and adherence to institutional policies and quality benchmarks as prescribed by NAAC and UGC.
